The lessons and growth opportunities to which I’m most resistant have turned out to be the most challenging and painful episodes in my journey. Heart-wrenching. Traumatizing at times.
Resisting them didn’t make the opportunities go away — that I’ve also learned the most painful way. And many times over as well.
I know….It doesn’t need to be that way. It doesn’t need to be the painful way.
But that’s how it has been for me.
And that has likewise been part of my learning — that I don’t need to learn or master something the painful way.
Those challenges most certainly wouldn’t have shown up if I wasn’t ready. No matter how undesirable and unwelcome those growth opportunities were to me, they certainly appeared on my path because I needed to learn something. To master a lesson. To sharpen a skill.
No matter how I didn’t like the lessons, I most certainly needed them.
When it is time to learn a lesson, there’s no going around it. There’s no escaping it. No delaying it. We cannot hurry up our process of learning either.
When the student is ready, the teacher always appears.
And when the teacher shows up, it is to our best interest that we, too, show up. It is to our benefit that we welcome these opportunities — and be grateful for them no matter how difficult they are or seem to be.
Sure, we can choose to ‘play dead,’ turn a blind eye or a deaf ear — something that I’ve also done countless times. Such opportunities, though, will just find their way back to our paths — eventually.
I’ve played phone tag with my ‘teachers’ one too many times. The Universe had requested for a call back which I ignored — thinking the message will go away, believing the lesson will find another student.
Nope. No such thing of course.
Playing phone tag with the teacher will not make the message or the lesson go away.
I may be stubborn, but I sure pale in comparison with the Universe’ determination to make me grow and evolve!
