GROUNDEDNESS with Sacred Earth Drums

64 Ways in 64 Days Nonviolence Daily Reflections Day 12 – Feb. 10, 2012

The thought for today is GROUNDEDNESS.

Gandhi said “To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.” Black Elk reminds us “Some little root of the sacred tree still lives. Nourish it, that it may leaf and bloom and fill with singing birds.”

This is how we are going to feel grounded, like a tree planted in the earth. Stand up straight and close your eyes. Imagine your body is a tree. Send down roots into the soil, feel the sun shining from above. Feel your branches and leaves blowing in the wind. When we feel grounded, we feel secure in our environment; and when we feel secure, we are more likely to respond to a situation in a nonviolent way. Being grounded helps us contribute to peace, to a culture of nonviolence.

Today: I will nurture a plant or plant a seed in, and for, the earth. When I am in a confrontational situation, I will recall that sense of being grounded and respond in a nonviolent way.

Feeling grounded and rooted into the earth, and feeling safe and connected to the physical world are illustrations of a balanced root chakra.

Being the root energy center of the human system, the root chakra is the foundation which affects the rest of the system.  It is the most complex of the entire chakra system.  Yet it is the most neglected.

There is a huge misconception that a highly evolved, spiritual or actualized individual focuses or operates only from the higher, spiritual chakras.  This leads to the neglect, even rejection of the basic, lower chakras, which creates an imbalance.  No matter how much work is done to activate, heal, or balance the upper or any other chakras, a neglected and rejected root chakra is the core issue behind any other illness related to the other chakras.

Drums from around the world join with Native American Flute, Incan Pan Pipes, Spirit Rattle, Guitars, Digital Synthesizers and Sounds of Nature (including wolf, eagle, coyote and dolphin). Feel the irresistible power of the beat lead you on a healing Shaman’s journey. Move your body and become absorbed in the dance – for the sacredness of life and reverence for the earth!

One way to feel grounded and develop a strong relationship to the earth is by playing the drums or listening to drumming music.  One of my favorites is the CD Sacred Earth Drums by Steve and David Gordon

When I feel spaced out or my energies seem to be all over the place, listening to this CD immediately makes me feel planted, rooted, and centered.  You can listen to it while meditating or as a background music, even while driving.

Sacred Earth Drums takes you on a shamanic journey using pan pipes, wooden flutes, classical guitars, and Native American drums, and nature sounds, creating a deeply meditative yet grounding experience, at the same time working its rooting magic!

Steve and David Gordon‘s intention is to make the listeners “remember the sacredness of all life and reverence for the Earth…a message which belongs to all people and all cultures, and hopefully, future generations.”  Sacred Earth Drums accomplishes precisely that.

Happy listening and happy rooting and grounding!!!
