Every individual has some form of suffering,
To be compassionate is to desire that they be relieved of what they’re experiencing,
To be compassionate is to want an ending for the other’s suffering,
And this can only happen when we’re sensitive to what other people are feeling.
It’s not about feeling sorry for them, that is sympathy,
It’s about having the same feeling, and that is empathy,
When we learn to empathize, we learn to realize,
That to be compassionate is very loving and wise.
To be compassionate is to want to help and be of service to others,
We expect nothing in return, we treat others like they’re our sisters and brothers,
It is all about wanting to end the other’s suffering,
We help because we want to help, and the giving ends in the giving.
Oh Kwan Yin, Goddess of Compassion,
Teach us to love and make helping be our mission,
So when we see someone who is in some form of suffering,
With compassion in our hearts, we reach out to them for their healing.
